| Dangerous Gums To be Removed |
|
The Building and Grounds Subcommittee of the Board has resolved to remove a number of a
particular type of gum tree from the school grounds both at Trinity and at Waterford.
These
gums are known colloquially in various parts of Australia as "snappy gums' or "widow
makers." Last year a car was crushed at Waterford from a branch falling unexpectedly. We have since
had a number of trees at Trinity drop branches suddenly. Thankfully no student, staff member or parent has been injured. We have taken the advice of the Grounds staff in deciding to remove the trees completely from the College ground
The recent rapid deterioration in the gums has been attributed to
the age of the trees, the more brackish groundwater and the hot months.
These pictures show the evidence of the deterioration and the previous trimming that was
done in an effort to keep the gums safe.
