Trinity College has its own Socceroo

In 1987 Trinity College won the first ever PSA Soccer Competition for the Lawe Davies Trophy. Playing for the team was a young defender named Shaun Murphy.

Coached by Alan Pendleton, himself a former State Soccer player, Shaun joined the Australian Institute of Sport in 1988 before returning to play two seasons with Perth Italia soccer Club in 1990-91. Moving to England in 1992 he played for Notts County for five years and with West Bromwich Albion for three years. In 1999 Shaun returned to Western Australia and played one season with Sorrento Soccer Club before returning to England joining Sheffield United for the next four years. Shaun ended his current playing career as captain of Perth Glory in 2003-4 where his 28 appearances were rewarded with four goals.

Shaun has also represented Australia in 1989 for the U20 team at the World Youth Championships, in 1992 for the U23 team at the Olympic Games in Barcelona, and has made twenty international appearances for the Socceroos where the highlight must be scoring a goal against the World Champion’s, Brazil, in 2001.
