Students at Trinity College can be involved with music from Year 4 through to Year 12, whether it is in the classroom, in one or more performing groups, in musical productions or in a combination of these activities.
GENERAL MUSIC CLASSES
In the Junior School each class has a music period where students engage in a range of activities aimed at enhancing their musical appreciation and music literacy.
INSTRUMENTAL TUITION
Instrumental tuition at the College begins at Year 4 with a compulsory strings program in violin or cello, Year 5 for woodwind, brass and classical guitar and Year 6 for percussion. Students can continue their tuition through to Year 12 with the option of using their performing skills as part of the TEE music subject. Tuition in tenor drumming with the Pipes and Drums is available to students from Year 5 onwards, in piping from Year 6 onwards, while boys wishing to play snare drum start in Years 6 or 7. Performing groups in the Junior School include the ‘Elastic Band’, Year 4/5 Choral Group, Year 6 Choral Group, and the violin and cello groups.
DANCE
Dance is becoming a significant part in the culture at Trinity College. The Junior School has a very successful dance group called BIG ‘Boys in Groove’.
CATHEDRAL CHOIR
Members of the Junior School and some Senior School students form the St Mary’s Cathedral Choir. The Choir rehearses each Monday to Thursday morning at 8:00am for its Sunday commitments. Scholarships are available for members of the Cathedral Choir.
