MUSIC
Students at Trinity College can be involved with music from Year 4 through to Year 12, whether it is in the classroom, in performing ensembles, in musical productions or in a combination of these activities.
In the Junior School each class has a music period where students engage in a range of activities aimed at enhancing their musical abilities.
Music in the Senior School is offered to students as a classroom elective in Years 8 to 10 and a TEE and Common Assessment Framework subject in Years 11 and 12. The classroom curriculum is strongly based on active learning principles aimed at developing music literacy, and skills in composition and performance. The electronic computer/keyboard music room plays an important part in integrating composition, theory and performance.
INSTRUMENTAL TUITION
Instrumental tuition at the College begins at Year 4 with a compulsory strings program in violin or cello, Year 5 for woodwind, brass and classical guitar, and Year 6 for percussion. Students can continue their tuition through to Year 12 with the option of using their performing skills as part of the TEE music subject. Tuition in tenor drumming with the Pipes & Drums is available to students from Year 5 onwards, in piping from Year 6 onwards, while boys wishing to play snare drum start in Years 7 or 8.
ENSEMBLES
Performing groups in the Junior School include the ‘Elastic Band’, the Year 4/5 choral group, Year 6/7 choral group and the violin and cello groups.
Members of the Junior School and some Senior School students also form the St Mary’s Cathedral Choir. This is directed by Fr Tim Deeter and rehearses Tuesday through Friday mornings at 8.00am for its Sunday commitments. Scholarships are available for members of the Cathedral Choir.
The Secondary School has several large performing ensembles: the Orchestra, the Wind Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble, Swing Bands, Chorale, and Pipes and Drums Band; and many smaller ensembles such as Vocal, Jazz, String, Classical & Modern Guitar and Percussion Ensembles. Students in the large ensembles attend an annual music camp.

DANCE
Dance is becoming a significant part in the culture at Trinity College. The school has two dance groups, one Junior group, BIG (Boys In Groove) and the secondary group, GIG (Guys In Groove). These groups represent the college in various school events and festivals such as the Trinity College Junior and Senior Ensemble Evenings, Speech Night, JSHAA Performing Arts Festival and the Catholic Performing Arts Festival. In the past four years both groups have received multiple awards for their dance productions. The dance is contemporary and athletic in nature and each original work features innovative ideas and exciting soundtracks. The Senior Enterprise students also explore movement, attending workshops in yoga, dance and circus skills.
