EDUCATION SUPPORT
'INCLUSIVE EDUCATION'
Trinity's program of educational support for boys with special educational needs and/or disabilities was established in 2000 - the International Year of the Culture of Peace and the Great Jubilee Year.
This establishment followed recommendations from a Trinity College Board Working Party that deliberated for two years.
The program decided on is one based on a strong commitment to inclusive education . Inclusion is about creating a sense of belonging in all members in the school community.
Inclusive education means that - with greater diversity in the learning needs of our boys - a whole school approach to meeting these needs will be developed with an emphasis on 'empowering the individual.'
Inclusion in our Trinity context then is about achieving the best fit between individual learning needs and educational provision for boys identified with special education needs and disabilities . It is therefore a flexible and personal approach to designing individual programs for these students.
Inclusion requires a focus on friendships and building peer supports. It also requires strengthening partnerships between home and school and developing a team approach to problem solving and working creatively.
Inclusion is very much about collaboration and reflects the College's belief that all boys benefit from the opportunity to learn and socialise together.
