New Beginnings – New Locations!

The whole Trinity community gathered this morning in the Senior Quadrangle for our first whole-of-school Mass.
Because Centenary Park has been reseeded and is currently out of bounds, a new site had to be chosen for our Mass of the Holy Spirit for the opening of our new school year. Despite everyone’s initial misgivings, the new venue proved to be exceptionally good. The whole 1193 students from Junior, Middle and Senior schools carried their chairs into the Senior Quadrangle.
Our “cathedral of the outdoors” provided shade and a gentle breeze, and the surrounding buildings embraced the community.
Our new Head Boy, Matthew Fitzsimons, welcomed everyone, especially new boys and new teachers, and he introduced the special purpose of this Eucharistic celebration – to ask for God’s blessings on all the boys and families which make up the Trinity community of 2005.
Father Michael McMahon, our Chaplain, was our Celebrant and he talked in his homily about the need for our actions to match our values. He reminded us that the drive within each of us that makes us want to do good things is really the Holy Spirit. But unless we have some ‘quiet’ in our lives, and unless we give time to God in prayer, then we will never allow God’s Holy Spirit to emerge in our lives!
Holy Communion was distributed by our new Special Ministers of the Eucharist, and senior boys volunteered to serve and read at Mass. Dr Braham and Ms Bott provided the beautiful sacred music which added great solemnity to the whole occasion. Mr Murray was responsible for setting up the Altar and ensuring that everything required for our liturgical celebration was available. Mr Theseira and Mr Henderson were responsible for the smooth running of the assembly.
Many staff and students commented on just how wholeheartedly every boy embraced the Mass and felt very comfortable celebrating their faith. God’s Spirit was indeed present today within the Trinity community. In 2005, may each of us go forward and live what we believe!
