CREST AND MOTTO
Trinity, and its predecessor CBC Perth, have had a number of crests over the past 100 years.

SIGNUM FIDEI |

VIRILITER AGE |

IN NOMINE DOMINI |
Of special interest for the Trinity community are:
- the original SIGNUM FIDEI crest;
- the VIRILITER AGE crest until 1961; and
- the IN NOMINE DOMINI crest after 1962.
The Signum Fidei crest was borrowed from the de la Salle Brothers. It used by the Christian Brothers as the first crest of CBC Perth. A stained glass window incorporating this crest has been located in the foyer of Gibney Hall at Trinity College.
The Viriliter Age crest was based on the standard design used by many Christian Brothers' schools throughout the world. The motto (translated "Strive Manfully") has been used at Trinity for a special medal given to especially deserving students.
The Trinity crest was designed when CBC transferred from St George's Terrace in 1962 and was renamed Trinity College.
The Trinity Crest presents in bold outline three golden crowns upon a royal blue background. This is symbolic of the dedication of the College to the three Persons of the Trinity.
The overall shape is that of the simple shield. Crowns are traditionally associated with kinship and dominion and they are arranged in the form of an equilateral triangle to emphasise the unity and equality of the Trinity.
The arrangement as a whole was taken from the Arms of the Irish Republic, being the Arms of Lienster where the Congregation of the Christian Brothers was founded.
The Cross is the best known Christian symbol and is placed above the Marian symbol. This signifies the special devotion to the Congregation of Mary. The symbol was taken from the Arms of Bishop Gibney, Founder of Christian Brothers’ College, Perth in 1894.
The motto “In Nomine Domini” is taken from Psalm 123: “adjutorium nostrum in Nomine Domini" - “Our Help is in the name of the Lord"
