The Principal and the College Board are very pleased to be able to commend the Trinity College Strategic Plan 2005-2008 to you.

This document is the result of an extensive consultation phase that sought the views of staff, students, parents, past students and the extended Trinity community in an open ended process.

This five year plan provides a clear mandate for the Principal and the Board to continue to serve the Trinity community in enhancing the educational outcomes for all of its students. The community of the College has identified Trinity’s future broad directions and suggested specific new initiatives that will guide and inform the school in meeting the needs of its community.

Our strategic planning facilitator, Dr Liz Pattison, assisted the College Board by distilling the essence of the views of all of the stakeholders and proposing the five Key Result Areas listed below.

  1. Faith Formation
  2. The Educational Environment
  3. Pastoral Care
  4. Leadership and Management
  5. Communication and Public Relations

For each Key Result Area, the scope, outcomes, performance measures and new initiatives have been identified. In addition the responsibility for implementing each new initiative has been allocated to a member of the staff with a timeline for implementation.

This Strategic Plan will guide the College during a period of change in all Australian Catholic Schools in the Edmund Rice Tradition. The Strategic Plan incorporates the spirit of the Charter’s eleven cultural characteristics that reflect an authentic expression of Edmund Rice education.

The Principal and the Board will inform the College community regularly about the progress of the Strategic Plan. We wish to thank all of the participants in the formulation of our plan for the future.

Quotes at the foot of each page were provided by parents, staff, prefects and stakeholders as part of the consultation stage of the strategic plan.

VISION

Our vision is to be the leader in boys’ education.

MISSION

Trinity College is a Catholic school for boys in the Edmund Rice tradition.

Our mission is to enable each of our students to realise his spiritual, academic, social, cultural and sporting potential, and to assist him to become a man for others.

PRINCIPLES AND VALUES

The following principles and values guide all we do at Trinity:

SPIRITUALITY
We foster a personal spirituality and an active Catholic faith in all members of the Trinity community.

INCLUSIVITY
We are a friendly and inclusive school. We value each individual member and welcome all families.

EXCELLENCE
We encourage our students to be young men of integrity, who realise their potential, and strive for excellence.

SERVICE OF OTHERS
We foster service of others by way of educational experiences that are based on justice and compassion.

REFLECTIVE PRACTICE
We encourage students, staff and families to reflect on the contemporary world in the light of the Gospel as the basis for individual and community growth.

From a parent: “Pastoral care is excellent as are the values (caring for community, respect, participating being the focus not winning, and engendering school spirit).

STRATEGIC DIRECTION

Our strategic direction is based on two key themes:

  1. Developing and building on Trinity’s achievements and distinguishing characteristics.

Key aspects will be:

  • Preserving and expanding the Edmund Rice ethos, with new opportunities for faith formation, pastoral care and Christian service.
  • Being the leader in boys’ education through the enhancement of the holistic development of each student.
  • Introducing new ways to meet the individual needs of each boy.
  • Caring for staff and increasing our focus on staff health, wellbeing and professional formation.
  • Re-energising the curriculum through the implementation of the Curriculum Framework and Courses of Study.
  • Maintaining Trinity’s traditional strengths - faith development, academic, musical and sporting and enhancing facilities, including development of Performing Arts as an area of specialisation.
  • Maintaining and enhancing the diversity of the school community, the involvement of families, and the bonds and life-long friendships between students.
  • Further enhancing communication and consultation with families, staff, students, Old Boys and partner organisations.
  1. Opening Trinity to partnerships with the wider community to deliver new opportunities for our students.

Key aspects will be:

  • Increasing Trinity’s involvement in the Edmund Rice network of schools and ministries, for mutual benefit.
  • Embracing Trinity’s geographic location, maximising the river frontage, and using the City as a laboratory for teaching, recreation, and visual landscape.
  • Taking a leadership role in the East Perth Redevelopment to create new opportunities for Trinity.
  • Developing business and Christian service partnerships to extend learning opportunities for Trinity students.
  • Developing alternative funding sources to assist the College.
  • Extending partnerships with the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector.

From a Prefect: “I like the school spirit that’s generated”.

CHALLENGES

The key challenges for Trinity over the coming years will be to:

  • recognise, and respond to, the pressures on students, staff and families;
  • assist staff to achieve a balance between school and family life;
  • create effective communication and consultation for all members of the Trinity community;
  • ensure the school remains affordable, while meeting parent expectations;
  • keep abreast of, and maximise the benefit from, externally instigated curriculum changes; and to
  • avoid complacency, maintain relevance and always strive to improve.

KEY RESULT AREAS

The delivery of the Strategic Plan is based on five Key Result Areas:

  1. Faith Formation
  2. The Educational Environment
  3. Pastoral Care
  4. Leadership and Management
  5. Communication and Public Relations

The scope, outcomes, performance measures and new initiatives have been identified for each.

From a Prefect: “The exposure to Trinity is not just 4 – 12. It extends beyond.
