From the Headmaster

JUNIOR SCHOOL PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS & JUNIOR SCHOOL PUPIL FREE DAY

On Tuesday, 10 April 2018, the Junior School will be conducting Parent/Teacher Interviews from 8.30am to 5.00pm.  These will be held in the Junior School. My thanks to the Junior School teachers who make themselves available for these interviews.

TC TUITION FEE RAFFLE

The Parent Council is again conducting their “Fee Raffle”, where you will have the opportunity to have your Trinity College Tuition Fees paid for one year.  Tickets are available via https://www.trybooking.com/TAZY  and will be close at 11:59pm on Friday, 6 April 2018 (today), and will be drawn and noon on Monday, 9 April 2018 – Good luck to all that enter.

This is seen as both a fundraiser for the Parent Council, who provide a number of important activities and events for our students and parents, but also a way that one lucky Trinity family can have their school fees covered.  Please support their efforts.

SCHOOL BALL

During the holidays (Friday, 27 April) will be the School Ball. An enormous amount of work has already gone into this event, and I am sure that it will be an occasion that the students will long remember. On Saturday, 28 April, is the Parents Ball. All tickets have been sold.

ANZAC ASSEMBLY

On Tuesday, 1 May (Day 1 of Term 2), the College will conduct an Anzac Service in Centenary Park. Parents are most welcome to join with us.

YEAR 7-10 INTERIM REPORTS

Term One Interim Reports will be available to parents through SEQTA Engage, the parent portal section of SEQTA early next week. I encourage all parents to log on to SEQTA to access your son’s report. If you are unable to log on, please contact the IT Help Desk on 9223 8161.

YEAR 7-10 PARENT TEACHER STUDENT INTERVIEWS

Year 7 – 10 Parent Teacher Student Interviews are being held on Wednesday, 9 May 2018 from 9.00am – 7.30pm in Gibney Hall and the first floor B Block classrooms. We will be using Parent Teacher Online for parents to book interviews. You will receive an email on Monday 30th April explaining how to log on and book interviews. If you do not receive this email, please contact the IT Help Desk on 9223 8161. If you have recently changed your email address, please contact the College’s reception so that we can update our records.

Parent Teacher Online will remain open until 1.00pm on Friday, 4th May 2018 for you to book interviews.

I encourage parents to make the most of this valuable opportunity to discuss your son’s progress with his teachers.

YEAR 11 STUDY DAY AND YEAR 12 NORMAL SCHOOL DAY - WEDNESDAY, 9 MAY 2018

Due to the Year 7 – 10 PTS Interviews on Wednesday 9th May, this day is a study day for all Year 11 students. There are no formal classes for Year 11 students. Year 12 classes will run as normal on this day.

STUDENT PICK UP FROM WATERFORD AND OTHER EXTERNAL VENUES

I would like to highlight an important notice that was sent out by the Director of Sport yesterday.

If parents are picking their son up from any off campus venue, you should be present at the venue to collect your son when training/game concludes.   If you know that you cannot be there when training/game finishes but want your son to remain at the venue until you arrive, please write a note into your son’s diary indicating he has your permission to remain unsupervised at the venue until you arrive to pick him up.  If  you are not at the venue and your son does not have a note, he will be brought back to school.  If you are unexpectedly late, a text message to your son which he can show to his coach will be sufficient for him to be left unsupervised at the venue.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

NELSON CRESCENT - ROAD CLOSURES

We have been advised by the Bridge Marketing Group that there will be road closures along Nelson Crescent from the College to the new bridge (Approx. 80 metres), from Wednesday, 4 April to Friday, 13 April 2018.  During this time, Nelson Crescent will be 1 lane.  During the school holidays (Monday, 16 April to Friday, 27 April 2018, inclusive), Nelson Crescent will be closed to all traffic. I urge all parents and students, to be patient and take care whilst the road works are taking place.

END OF TERM

As we head towards the end of term, parents are reminded that teaching staff often plan assessments to be conducted in the last scheduled days of term and that it is important that students are present until the conclusion of term on the afternoon of Friday, 13 April. I take this opportunity to remind parents that students return in second term in full winter uniform – have you checked whether your son’s winter uniform still fits him?

Secondary School News

My name is Francis Moschilla and I am from 9.1. I applied for the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award because I knew it would be lots of fun and also help me become a man with good morals and values. I want to be hard-working and try my best at everything I do. I also knew it would help me learn leadership skills.

A week of Duke of Edinburgh involves me doing a set of Physical Recreation, Skills and Services. For physical recreation, I have been doing 1st VIII tennis training on Tuesday and Thursday and match play on Saturday. Now that the summer season has come to an end I am moving to 1st X-country where I will be training on Tuesday and Thursday and will be racing on Saturday. For my skills, I am planning to help out with tennis training and help little kids improve their tennis. For service I am also planning on helping out at the canteen and do some soup patrols.

I am looking forward for the year ahead taking on the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and the opportunities it can give me.

WESTERN SPRINT SWIM CLUB

At Western Sprint Swim Club we aim not only to develop the swimmer, but also to provide an environment that encourages an enjoyment of sport and that sees fitness as important.  Swimmers are encouraged to set personal goals and organise their time to achieve them.

Some of our swimmers who are now ‘Old Boys’ as well as those from outside the College have gone on to achieve excellence at State, National and International level.  Our Club is proud of these achievements but just as importantly we recognise everyone’s successes.   Swimmers are therefore encouraged to have their own reasons for swimming, be it for competition level swimming, general fitness, focus for school, commitment, motivation or perhaps a distraction from something else.

We run 4 squads - Mini Squad (6-9yo), Juniors, National Pathway, Seniors and also cater for fitness for polo and surf. Sessions are run Monday to Saturday (both morning and afternoon), so there’s plenty of flexibility to ensure you complete your weekly schedule. We also run 2 dry-land sessions each week for the older swimmers.

We invite interested parents and swimmers to contact our Club via our New Member Coordinator shivaun@eganpg.com.au if they would like to see their children continue their swimming post Learn to Swim or just to find out more details about what we do.  We can also be found on Facebook and Instagram or http://www.westernsprint.org.au
