From the Headmaster

YEAR 12 STUDENTS

Our Year 12 students are approaching an exciting time of the year and are busy preparing for their very important final school examinations which begin next week. Early in Term 4, the Senior School students will attend Presentation Night and other Graduation ceremonies and their schooling at Trinity will conclude after the WACE Examinations.

I have emphasised to the Year 12 students that this week marks the end of Term 3 and not the end of the school year. Year 12 students officially finish at the College after the final student has finished his final external examination. We look forward to celebrating and congratulating our students on their contributions to the College.

SECONDARY SCHOOL PRESENTATION NIGHT

Presentation Night will be held on Tuesday, 17 October at the Perth Concert Hall commencing at 7:00pm. Attendance is compulsory for all Year 10, 11 and 12 students and for all prize winners and performers in Year 7, 8 and 9. Information will be sent to Year 10, 11 and 12 parents with regards to purchasing tickets within the next week. The College provides seating in the upper gallery for all Year 10 and 11 students as they are part of the massed choir performance.

Notification to prize winners in Year 7 – 11 (except Year 11 Maths and Physics courses) and Year 12 ‘non-ATAR’ courses will be emailed out shortly. Notification to prize winners in Year 11 Maths and Physics and Year 12 ATAR courses will be emailed in the first week of next term, following their final examinations. Information regarding the purchase of tickets, is noted in a separate part of this newsletter.

YEAR 7 MASS

Thank you to those parents that came to the Year 7 Mass last Tuesday – it is always wonderful to see parents supporting their sons and the religious dimension of the school. Thanks to Mrs Beverly Martinez for the organisation of the Morning Tea. The term 4 Mass for Year 7’s will be on Tuesday, 24 October, as always, all parents are warmly invited.

END OF TERM

At the end of Term 3, we will be saying goodbye to Maighread Ni Dheasuna and Anthony D’Ignazio from our Science Department, who have been doing relief for Bill Cooper and Michael Slack-Smith, both of whom will be returning from LSL next term.  Finally, I take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe holiday. Students return to school on Tuesday, 10 October in correct summer uniform.

LEARNING JOURNEY

On Wednesday evening, the Junior School conducted a Learning Journey. The Learning Journey involved the boys leading their parents through a selection of the work that they have completed this term. It was a great opportunity for the boys to take ownership of their learning and share a variety of the work that they are proud of with their parents. It was fantastic to see the boys enthusiastically showing and completing activities with their parents. Thank you to all who supported by participating in the evening.

ITALIAN SCARECROWS

This term, the Year 4s have been making scarecrows during Italian class as they have been learning the parts of the body and clothing. In groups, they were required to design, plan and build a scarecrow. There were some very creative designs and the boys did a fantastic job of completing this project. The scarecrows are on display in the Junior School library, and the boys have voted for their favourite scarecrow. Troy Taylor (4B) and Patrick Carroll (4B) won first prize for their scarecrow, which will now be on display at the Royal Show as part of the Sustainable Scarecrow competition. Their innovative design made use of an old fan as a boy and the design was based around this. Congratulations to all the Year 4s for their great teamwork in the Sustainable Scarecrow project.

Ms Eliza Knapman | Italian Teacher

PREFECTS' CORNER

This week the Junior School finished off the term with high standards as always. The Year 6s came back from Kalgoorlie last Friday and they enjoyed their experience there. Coming back, the boys prepared, with the Year 4s and 5s, their classrooms for Learning Journey on Wednesday evening. On Thursday Years 5s had great fun with their "Americas' Day". Thanks to Miss Hodson, all the parents who helped and Mrs Nicoletto.  Also on Thursday the Year 5s and 6s started their summer sport training ready for next term. This Friday was a Golden Honour and TOBA assembly. We also had Mass this morning celebrating the term. On behalf of the Prefects, we hope you have a great and safe holiday.

VOLLEYBALL STATE SCHOOLS CUP ROUND 2

Trinity College entered four teams into the second round of the Volleyball State Schools Cup, which hosted teams from Year 7-10. Our Years 7 & 8 teams competed on the Friday and performed extremely well, improving in their skills and gameplay throughout the day. The Year 10 team did very well and managed to get a silver medal losing some clutch points in the final. The Year 9 team entered into the Honours division and faced some very tough opposition including a very skilled Rossmoyne. After finishing first in the pools and easily winning the semi-final against Greenwood, it was no surprise that we would meet Rossmoyne in the finals. There were many dramas in the game, including a court change, referees reassigned, a couple of warnings and a massive supporter base in favour of Rossmoyne. Eventually after 2-2 battle, Trinity entered the 5th side in a do or die effort. At this point the Trinity spirit shone through. By consistent gameplay and sheer willpower, Trinity overwhelmed a tired and frustrated Rossmoyne side. Congratulations to all the boys who trained and competed in the tournament. Well done to Cameron Pell (9.5) who won the most valuable player in the Year 9 Honours division. Thanks to all the parents and friends who help support us. Special mentions to Old Boy Matt Murphy ('14), Mr Kieran Cranley and Ms Katie Rolston who helped coach our sides over the weekend. Look out for more special volleyball moments in term 4.
